Hi! I wanted to reply to the comment made by L.J.F. and say that I think manufacturers are trying to cut costs and listen to what people want. Many have sent manufacturing to China, but now China's workers are in high demand, there middle class in increasing, so cost of the shoe manufacturers are going up. Not to mention the strength of the dollar right now, when the dollars value goes down you can't buy as much for the same cost.

As for reducing waist. There are a couple of manufactures I know of that use recycled materials in there shoes. You can check out Keen and Simple. Both I know use, used car tire. And I believe Simple uses left over EVA from carpet manufacturers in their insoles.

I am not sure what was ment by make more of the shoes that are being purchased, so I will just let that one be.

We have lived in an era of almost endless selections of footwear from high quality to plastic flip-flops. Most of these selections are found at the budget racks or bins after the market hasn't sold them. As our standard of living is becoming more expensive, due to the blatant greediness of others, cutting the cost is on the minds of comsumers and manufacturers. With the evolution of the internet and the possibility of getting reliable contacts world wide, are shoe makers working to get a better idea of the consumer's wants in a targeted market to keep the cost down and reduce the waste of finished products, and also make more of the shoes that are being purchased?
